PVE Prestige GALA - 2011

The annual Paarl Valley Eisteddfod (PVE) Prestige GALA, held in the Paarl Town Hall on Thursday the 8th of September, a prestigious occasion, presented an opportunity to all art lovers to experience artistic expression by top performers from the Eisteddfod 2011 season that came to a close. Artists from the Paarl Valley and the further reaches of the Western Cape were rewarded for the hard work it takes to perform at peak.
The event, sponsored by the Paarl Rotary Club, iKapa Catering through Western Province Catering, the Drakenstein Municipality and the Paarl Post, was opened by soloist Jo-Nette LeKay with Dvorák's "Song to the moon" from Rusalka.
Affiliated members of the PVE, its friends and sponsors, the public and 163 Prestige Prizewinners, thoroughly enjoyed the 90 minute programme, packed with prestige performances, as well as the Chairman's Keynote speech in which the future direction of the PVE was revealed. The Chairperson's speech, presented to the packed hall, conveyed plans to work closer together with businesses, organizational and government structures to create partnerships that will largely benefit the young and upcoming artists!
All category winners received Prestige Performance Certificates and Medals during a glamorous event during which winner's prizes were handed over to the 163 individual and group artists by the Drakenstein councilor, Dr Noël Adams, portfolio (Social Services and Community Development).
On behalf of the Paarl Valley Eisteddfod (PVE) executive and convenors, I wish to offer greetings to our valued partners, councilors, distinquished guests, patrons and performers!.
The Prestige Gala Event coincides with International Literacy Day and we appeal that you offer the next 90 minutes in tribute to the literacy ability of our performers! The artists respect this decision and are grateful for your ear!
Our constitutional mandate is to arrange an annual Eisteddfod encompassing the different art disciplines. The Prestige Gala event concludes the season which started in May and showcases the talent of our exceptional local artists. The artists attend schools in Paarl or in surrounding towns and receive tuition either at school or privately.
The 23 convenors and their teams are to be commended for their utter dedication in organizing the individual events. Headmasters/Principals/Educators/Parents have been so accommodating and supportive at the various events and at times the adjudicators faced a challenge in the awarding of prizes.
We acknowledge the need for creating links with various social partners, i.e. business, civil society and government to further expand our service to the learner and encourage you to offer your expertise in strengthening our efforts.
We are delighted in bestowing honorary membership on Yvonne Weiss, one of the PVE stalwarts, who have served in the capacity as convenor for recorder music and have made an indelible mark on numerous learners, and educators! Of significance is the manner in which this category has grown over these years.
We are indeed grateful to the Paarl Post, the Rotary Club, IKAPA and the Drakenstein Municipality, for their valued contributions towards this event.
The new PVE management took a quantum leap in establishing a virtual office via the website which gives immediate contact regarding the events including links to viewing certain performances. We hope you are encouraged to browse and you may also comment on the Paarl Valley Eisteddfod facebook page!
With your ongoing support, we are poised to make deeper and wider strides in exposing learners to the opportunities in the ARTS!
